Project success in El Salvador: First generation of bank specialists celebrate completion of dual vocational training course according to German savings banks model

It was a great day for the 23 graduates and their families. But the representatives of the participating institutions and associations, too, rejoiced over the successfully completed vocational training in unison with the freshly graduated bank specialists in San Salvador on 13 May.

Before the diplomas were officially handed over to the graduates, the presidents of the association FEDECRÈDITO and the University of Centroaméricana (UCA) congratulated the freshly minted “asesores técnicos financieros” (financial consultants) and held solemn speeches to their praise. The head of UCA, Amparo Maroquin Parducci, underlined the importance of the dual vocational training system and its graduates for El Salvador: “We pin high hopes on you as successful graduates of this first dual vocational training course according to the German model. Hopes that you will push our country forward and help to make it somewhat better.”

The representatives of the German embassy, too, found appreciating words for the training system and its participants. Rolf Grempel, Project Leader for Mexico and El Salvador of Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation (Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation), congratulated the graduates on their excellent performance and encouraged them to keep up their enthusiasm for education also in the future and never stop to invest in it.

Project success and its repercussions

In March 2014, the pilot project “dual vocational training for bank specialists” was launched in cooperation with the Salvadorian association FEDECRÈDITO and 11 cooperative financial institutions, taking on trainees. This pilot project is one of the core project modules and targets of the <link http: www.sparkassenstiftung.de en projects projekt regionalprojekt-zur-verbesserung-des-nachhaltigen-zugangs-zu-finanzdienstleistungen-durch-die-staerk _blank>regional project to improve sustainable access to financial services by promoting training and association structures in Latin America and the Caribbean. The theoretical training skills were imparted by FEDECRÈDITO: In theme-work teaching held at the association premises the apprentices learned the required knowledge, which was later on put into practice at the bank branches participating in the dual vocational training.

For Sparkassenstiftung, it is a huge project success that all 23 trainees have successfully completed the dual vocational training course – and the results are encouraging: A second training course is currently prepared for El Salvador. In addition to that, the introduction of dual vocational training in the financial sector of Sparkassenstiftung’s other Latin American project countries is in the pipeline.
