Intercultural exchange to promote financial literacy

Sparkassenstiftung supports South-South dialogue with training measure to develop and implement financial literacy strategies

What risks must be considered when taking up a loan? How do I invest my savings sensibly and safely? Financial education helps to understand the banking sector and to manage financial matters competently. This does not only apply to customers, but also to the staff of financial institutions.

With the aim to enhance the financial knowledge at an international level, Sparkassenstiftung together with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) organised a five-day training on designing and implementing strategies to improve basic financial education.

26 key players from 13 different countries participated in the training at the savings banks academy Sparkassenakademie Schloss Waldthausen geared to promote basic financial education in October 2014. Inspired by internationally renowned trainers and interactive training methods, there was a vivid exchange of experience between the high-ranking representatives of central banks, financial supervisory authorities and microfinance associations.
