Türkiye: Entrepreneurship among Earthquake-Affected People and Refugees Strengthened – Project Successfully Completed

The RE-SEED project*, funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has been successfully completed in Kahramanmaraş. The project was implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in partnership with the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye and the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK). Its aim was to support entrepreneurs affected by the earthquake, as well as refugees and members of host communities.

As part of the project, training was provided in entrepreneurship, marketing, branding, e-commerce and business planning. Out of more than 700 applications, 100 entrepreneurs were selected to take part in the training courses and subsequently received individual coaching. A total of 15 million Turkish lira (TRY) in grants was awarded. Each grant recipient received approximately TRY 150,000 to invest specifically in machinery, equipment and raw materials, thereby strengthening production capacity and business processes.

The closing and networking event took place on 24 September 2026 at the Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The project results were presented, success stories were shared and symbolic cheques were handed over to the grant recipients. The event also provided an opportunity to establish new contacts and explore potential cooperation.

The RE-SEED project focuses on six cities in Türkiye: Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, Kilis and Malatya - with particular emphasis on supporting women, people with disabilities and disadvantaged groups. Its aim is to expand employment opportunities, strengthen the resilience of local businesses and support economic recovery in the earthquake-affected regions.
