In the presence of representatives from international organisations like the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Mrs. Sirikit Boupha, Chairperson of WFDF’s Board of Directors, and Mrs. Khonevilay Sengsourinha, WFDF’s General Manager, received this year’s award for outstanding achievements in rural development and poverty reduction on this year’s forum on “Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (RDPE)” taking place in Kuala Lumpur.
With this annual forum, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) highlights the importance of cooperation between the various stakeholders on government and non-government levels, including the private sector and the civil society, which is necessary to achieve the goals of sustainable development and worldwide poverty eradication set out in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
WFDF – Professionalising microfinance activities with the support of Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation (Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation)
The microfinance institution WFDF was founded in 2009 with the support of Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation (Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation) and in cooperation with the Lao Women’s Union (LWU). WFDF gives its female customers in the country’s rural and poorer regions access to savings and loans. There are no banks in the country’s villages and the trip to the next provincial capital is generally very long and difficult. WFDF takes its service offers to the women in the rural and remote villages by organising regularly recurring centre meetings, where the women can come together and handle all their bank affairs.
