Partnership project with East Africa in the focus of interest: Sparkassenstiftung represented on exhibition “Fair Handeln” in Stuttgart

In cooperation with the Sparkassenverband Baden-Württemberg (Savings Banks Association of Baden-Württemberg – SVBW), the Sparkassenstiftung was again represented on this year’s international exhibition “Fair Handel”, focusing on fair trade and globally responsible trade and activities in Stuttgart from 9 to 12 April.

The savings banks partnership project in East Africa was in the focus of interest and very well represented by Martina Herre, Project Coordinator for Tanzania of the partner savings bank Kreissparkasse Tübingen, Annika Jung, Sparkassenstiftung’s Project Manager for East Africa, and Tobias Peylo, Project Coordinator for Burundi of the savings banks association Sparkassenverband Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, Sparkassenstiftung’s short-term experts Natascha Mundinger and Julia Peylo helped the team answering the visitors’ many questions.

Tobias Peylo presented Sparkassenstiftung’s microfinance concept and explained how knowledge is imparted in developing and emerging countries. In addition, he informed about the SVBW’s commitment and support to establishing a microfinance academy in Burundi.

The exhibition stand of Sparkassenstiftung and SVWB also welcomed a special guest: Peter Friedrich, Minister for the Bundesrat (federal council), Europe and international Affairs in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg showed special interest in the sustainability concept of the German Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (Savings Banks Finance Group) in Baden-Württemberg and wanted to know all about the cooperation between SVBW/ Sparkassenstiftung and Burundi’s microfinance association RIM (Réseau des Institutions de Microfinance). Since the 1980s, Burundi is partner country of the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg; hence, the small Central African country attracted a lot of attention on the exhibition.

“Fair Handeln” is Germany’s oldest and most important international trade and consumer exhibition. It focuses and informs on fair trade and globally responsible and sustainable trade and activities in business, finance, tourism, consumption and development cooperation.
