Challenges in Cuba
Due to Cuba's extensive political and economic isolation, the country’s digital infrastructure is not well developed. Transportation costs for employees who want to participate in centralized training are also very high. However, together with its partner BPA, Sparkassenstiftung was able to overcome these challenges in Cuba and is now able to reach staff members on the island virtually.
Due to the gradual changes in Cuba's economic system, the financial system must also adapt, i.e. regular further training in the financial sector is urgently needed. Expertise from the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe is helping: Sparkassenstiftung provides valuable training material or conducts its own training courses. Staff members in the Cuban financial sector are taking advantage of this offer, both for their own further training and for training courses conducted by Sparkassenstiftung experts, e.g. in the field of risk management, financing of real estate loans or agricultural loans.
Sparkasse – A reliable and enduring partner
At the end of March, the digital training center was solemnly opened via video conference. For Tania Fitó Hernández, the president of the local partner bank BPA, a dream came true, she emphasized. The Director of the Sparkassenstiftung Latin America, Gerd Weissbach, was also enthusiastic about the inauguration, saying that it showed the importance of cooperation and joint efforts in times of crisis. Being on site and providing advice and support even in these difficult times would show the dependability of Sparkassenstiftung.
Weissbach proudly reported: "Just as customers in Germany can depend on their Sparkasse, project partners all over the world can rely on the Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation.”
