Heinrich Haasis was awarded the title as honorary senator

In recognition of his outstanding commitment to setting up and establishing the Bonn-based Hochschule der Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (University of Applied Sciences of the Savings Banks Finance Group) the university’s senate has awarded the title as honorary senator to Heinrich Haasis, Chairman of the Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation (Savings Banks Foundation for International Cooperation) and President of the Brussels-based World Savings and Retail Banking Institute (WSBI). The award ceremony took place in Bonn on 22 April 2016 within the scope of the university’s graduation event of the winter semester 2015/16.

“During his tenure as President of the Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband (German Savings Banks Association – DSGV) from 2006 to 2012 Heinrich Haasis has sustainably promoted the development of the Hochschule der Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe – University of Applied Sciences. His strong personal commitment has essentially contributed to the successful institutional accreditation of the university”, said Prof. Dr. Bernd Heitzer, Principal of the Hochschule der Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe – University of Applied Sciences. Thanks to Haasis’s highly esteemed expertise and his outstanding support it was succeeded in establishing the university within the academia.

Georg Fahrenschon, President of the Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband (German Savings Banks Association – DSGV), held the laudatory speech in compliment to Heinrich Haasis. He underlined that by appointing the former DSGV-President as honorary senator, the university has gained a personage who has not promoted its development just for formal reasons. “Awarding Heinrich Haasis the title of honorary senator is a token of deepest appreciation of his work and reflects our personal respect”, said Fahrenschon. Haasis has an infallible sense of what is politically feasible and has then and now distinguished himself by uniting a high position with a strong conviction.

According to the honour regulations, the Senate of the Hochschule der Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe – University of Applied Sciences is empowered to decide on awarding the title of honorary senator to persons, who have rendered outstanding services to the university’s development, research and teaching or its non-profit work. In 2015, the Senate determined to appoint Heinrich Haasis and Dr. jur. Dietrich H. Hoppenstedt as honorary senators of the Hochschule der Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe – University of Applied Sciences.
