The Polish state savings bank PKO was spun off from the National Bank in 1987 and has operated independently in organisational and legal terms ever since. At the beginning of the 1990s, PKO still employed over 30,000 staff members who had to be prepared for the new challenges on the banking market.
Deutsche Sparkassenstiftung supported both PKO's central and regional training centres in improving their training provision. In addition, the training measures were embedded in a comprehensive human resources development strategy.
As part of the project, contacts were also established between the German savings banks close to the border and PKO, which later led to the establishment of the German-Polish Cooperation Office.
