The project addresses both the supply and demand side of green financing. Both sides face a lot of challenges, which have to be considered. On the demand side, SMEs often lack information about available green financial products, struggle with capacity to design bankable projects, and face difficulties in meeting compliance requirements. On the supply side, financial institutions may lack appropriately scaled products for smaller enterprises and encounter internal challenges in offering green finance, such as lack of regulatory measures, internal guidance, and trained personnel.

The GPEK project encompasses three outcomes: 1. Inform, 2. Enable, 3. Transform. Access to Green Finance is an important component of outcome 2 (ENABLE), which will be taken over by DSIK. The focus on this outcome is on strengthening the ecosystem of services, finance, and policy support that enables SMEs in Kosovo to adopt and scale green business practices.

Tasks

GPEK aims to support Kosovo's private sector enterprises in transitioning toward greener, more sustainable business models. By promoting resource efficiency, renewable energy, circular economy approaches, and compliance with emerging environmental standards, GPEK seeks to contribute to a more competitive, resilient, and environmentally responsible business ecosystem.
