Financial education in Kosovo: a new partnership and the Stock Market Learning Competition bring theory and practice together

The German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation has signed a new partnership agreement in Kosovo with the Kosovo Banking Association to strengthen financial literacy and sustainable development. At the closing event of the stock market simulation, students were able to gain hands-on experience of the financial markets and present their results.

The German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) and the Kosovo Banking Association (KBA) have strengthened their collaboration through a new partnership. The agreement opens up opportunities for practical financial education, sustainable initiatives and targeted support for small and medium-sized enterprises, young people, women and rural areas.

Niclaus Bergmann, Managing Director of DSIK, was present in Kosovo for the official signing of the agreement. He took the opportunity to pay tribute to the long-standing close cooperation with the KBA and to discuss the next steps. The agreement lays the foundation for the expansion of technical support, capacity building and the transfer of expertise, so that the financial sector can continue to develop in a stable, sustainable and inclusive manner in the long term.

Stock Market Learning Competition: Experience financial markets first-hand

A particular highlight of the visit was the conclusion of the Stock Market Learning Competition in Kosovo. The Stock Market Learning Competition is a well-established, practical educational programme run by the Sparkassen Finance Group, which brings economic relationships to life in a clear and engaging way. Participants take on the role of investors themselves. In a simulated stock market environment, they make decisions about buying and selling securities and experience first-hand how these decisions affect markets and assets.

Over 40 students from business-related degree programmes took advantage of this opportunity to gain practical experience of trading on the virtual stock exchange. The closing event provided a space to reflect together on the experiences gained, discuss strategies and understand the dynamics of the capital markets.

Alongside the technical learning, the participants’ social responsibility was also evident. The prize money from the competition was donated to the “Xheladin Deda School” for the blind and visually impaired. This clearly demonstrates that financial education not only serves personal and professional development, but also makes a contribution to society.
