East German Savings Banks Association supports associations in Latin America

For more than ten years, Sparkassenstiftung has supported the financial sector of Latin America. Within the scope of its project activities in Mexico, Peru, El Salvador, Colombia and Ecuador, Sparkassenstiftung cooperates with (micro-) finance associations and supports their institutional development. An expansion of activities in the region is currently being examined.

For many years, the East German Savings Banks Association (Ostdeutscher Sparkassenverband – OSV) has supported Sparkassenstiftung’s project activities by assigning its employees for short-term missions to Latin America or by organising study tours of Latin American experts to its member institutions in Germany, thus enabling them to get acquainted with the strengths of the German Savings Banks Finance Group (Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe). The mutual goal pursued by Sparkassenstiftung and OSV is to further enhance the financial sectors of the Latin American partner countries and to improve the access to financial services in these countries.

On 26 October 2012, the joint endeavours of Sparkassenstiftung and the East German Savings Banks Association were formally laid down in a cooperation agreement.

The different consulting projects of associations in Latin America are financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
