Women in Business

Women as key players in society and the economy

Women around the world make a decisive contribution to social and economic development. Whether as entrepreneurs, leaders or heads of families – they bear financial responsibility for their households and actively shape economic life. Their advancement not only has a positive impact on economic development but also supports sustainable social change.

However, despite their important role, women often face obstacles such as limited access to financial services, loans, further training opportunities and a lack of networks and support structures. The German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK) is therefore involved in targeted projects to promote women's economic empowerment. The aim is to strengthen their financial independence and sustainably improve the future of their families and communities.

German Sparkassenstiftung's support for women entrepreneurs

German Sparkassenstiftung is committed to overcoming these barriers and specifically promoting women as entrepreneurs. In doing so, it pursues various approaches:

  • Practical training, advisory services, mentoring and the development of networks: DSIK supports women in strengthening their entrepreneurial skills and running their businesses successfully.
  • Financial inclusion through basic financial knowledge facilitates the use of savings products, microloans and access to financial institutions.
  • Innovative technologies and sustainability: women are supported in using innovative methods and technologies to adapt their business models to climate change.

In rural areas in particular, women benefit from DSIK’s targeted training programs that help them to organize their businesses efficiently, plan financing and manage economic risks.

Success through networking and cooperation

In addition to financial support, DSIK attaches great importance to building networks. Women are encouraged to organize themselves in networks and cooperatives. This enables them to benefit from each other's experience, share resources and jointly represent their economic interests. DSIK offers targeted mentoring programs for female entrepreneurs, providing not only financial support but also expertise in finance, business planning, and risk management.

Such networks promote both the exchange of knowledge and solidarity among female entrepreneurs and create a platform to take a stronger position in local markets.

Promoting women as the key to sustainable development

Targeted support for women makes a significant contribution to poverty reduction and economic development in the project countries. Economically empowered women often invest more in the education and health of their families – an effect that has a positive impact on entire communities. In this way, DSIK supports women in participating in economic life on an equal footing, using resources and strengthening their central role in society. In this way, their economic potential is fully exploited and their central role in society is further strengthened.
