The development of the three project countries in English-speaking West Africa is characterized by continued inadequate access to appropriate financial services as a major obstacle to development. This particularly affects women and young people. Credit cooperatives make a significant contribution to providing the primarily rural population with financial services, but the organizational and institutional development of the associations and their affiliated institutions still needs to be expanded.

The overall objective of the project is to improve the financial inclusion of previously excluded or disadvantaged groups of the population through better access to financial services, thereby promoting their participation in economic life and contributing to poverty reduction.

The concrete project objective is to strengthen the credit cooperative associations in The Gambia, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia so that they can offer their members target group-oriented and needs-based services.

Task
The credit cooperative associations and their affiliated credit cooperatives (KG) in Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone and Liberia are to be strengthened in their organisational development so that they can subsequently offer needs-based services and demand-oriented financial services and products for their members, in particular micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) as well as women and young people.
The South-South exchange between the partner associations is to be intensified and stabilised. (Potential) members of the KG, with a special focus on women and young people, are also strengthened in a holistic manner, which contributes to job creation and thus promotes the local economy.
