Within the scope of this partnership project, Sparkassenstiftung renders advice and support to several Rwandan public and private institutions, as there are: the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM), the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR), the Rwanda Cooperative Agency (RCA), which is the state-owned umbrella organisation for cooperatives, and the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Rwanda (AMIR), belonging to the private sector.

The project goal is to systematize and qualitatively improve vocational training for

• microfinance institutions operating in the private and state sector,
• (micro) entrepreneurs, as well as
• cooperatives
   

and enable a huge number of employees and entrepreneurs to get access to these training offers.

In so doing, the training contents for these three target groups are to be interlinked as far as possible. Thanks to the fact that micro-entrepreneurs and cooperatives both are customers of the microfinance institutions, it is possible to offer linked-up training measures to both lenders and borrowers, focussing on finance, accounting and reporting, planning, etc.

In addition, it is planned to set up a “Resource Center” with the aim to transfer already existing training offers and those that still need to be developed – in particular for the microfinance sector – to other East African countries.

Services provided

• Support of project partners in setting up the Rwanda Institute of Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship and Microfinance,
• Development of a Resource Center, serving as an exchange platform for trainers, training methods and material between Rwanda and other East African countries
