The Mexican Ministry of Public Education is supported by GIZ in implementing and developing dual training in Mexico. The objective of the current phase of the cooperation focuses on qualitatively expanding dual education, particularly from a gender-equitable perspective. Stereotypes within companies hindering certain activities for female students (e.g., using heavy machinery), and limited or gender-blind vocational guidance are additional challenges.
The aim of the project is to prepare young women to take advantage of the opportunities offered by dual training in better-paid professions that are typically held by men (so-called STEM professions in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). To this end, a national campaign is being implemented to attract young women to dual training in industrial occupations. In addition, information events and career guidance activities will be carried out to strengthen the professional and personal development of young women. Indirectly, this is intended to contribute to the overarching goal of increasing the proportion of female dual students in industrial occupations.
Tasks
- Mapping of existing dual vocational education schools, companies, and relevant school actors to identify entry points for vocational orientation events for young women
- Development and execution of gender-responsive training workshops for relevant actors in schools (liaisons, tutors etc.)
- Development and creation of a strategy for a campaign to attract young women to dual education in male-dominated industrial professions
- Development and implementation of a gender-transformative concept for vocational orientation/guidance events for young women in the first and second semesters in STEM careers, providing them information about Dual Education to enable them to make informed decisions about their future
