Rice farmers in Vietnam are facing increasingly heavy rainfall, which is jeopardizing their harvests. Index insurance exists in Vietnam, but there has been little demand for it to date. The project uses a train-the-trainer approach to train up to 1,500 people to raise their awareness of the consequences of climate change so that they may be more willing to take out index insurance.
Task
DSIK conducts two seminars to train up to 25 people as trainers for the Managing Climate Resilience (MCR) simulation. These trainers will then teach up to 1,500 rice farmers in three provinces. The MCR will be adapted and include know-how sessions on index insurance and corresponding products. One to two months after the training, the participants and a control group that did not receive the training will be surveyed. The analysis should show whether sensitized farmers are more likely to demand climate insurance. The results will be presented at a conference.
