Emigration from Venezuela to countries in the region has reached the scale of a humanitarian crisis in the last years. A total of around 7.5 million Venezuelans have left their country, of whom around 2.5 million have emigrated to Colombia and around 1.5 million to Peru.
This massive exodus is driven by political factors, socio-economic needs, the search for employment opportunities or the situation of insecurity and violence. Local economic and financial integration is a major challenge both for the refugees themselves and for the host population, as well as for the local financial institutions and authorities.
The overall development goal is to secure the livelihoods of Venezuelan migrants in Colombia and Peru and to effectively reduce poverty and hunger by promoting their comprehensive integration.
The concrete project objective is to improve the financial skills of migrants and economically disadvantaged members of the local population (demand side) and to ensure an adequate supply of financial services in the host communities (supply side).
Project Tasks
- On the demand side, the economic and financial literacy of the target group is to be strengthened.
- On the supply side, financial services are to be adapted to the needs of the target group.
- By promoting the cooperation of different organizations working in this field, the offer of integrative measures is to be improved.
