Even after the (ultimately peaceful) change of power in Gambia in January 2017, the Gambian youth, in particular, is characterized by a lack of prospects, which continues to promote tendencies towards migration. Migrants from Gambia continue to represent the highest group of refugees compared to the country's total population. In order to counter these trends, economic prospects must be created in the country.
The activities of the project serve to create better opportunities for successful start-ups, especially for young adults and women, to promote their participation in economic life and thus to contribute to the creation of jobs and to fight the causes of flight. The target group (men up to 35 years; women up to 45 years) should be prepared for taking on a self-employed activity through basic business and financial education. For this purpose, a three-level education and funding concept should be used, which is based on the migration concept of the Sparkassenstiftung.
For this purpose, basic training courses based on micro-entrepreneur and savings plan games are offered. Building on this, business coachings are planned for entrepreneurs with promising business ideas, which also provide access to finance for a suitably qualified group.
