The German ‘Sparkassen model’ is on the move and capturing a rising number of countries – in 2014, we again succeeded in expanding project activities. With a project volume of about EUR 13 million, we have executed projects in 37 different countries. New projects have been launched – among others – in Cuba, Bolivia, Mozambique and Kyrgyzstan.

And the number of our staff is continually rising, too – more than 150 experts are working for us all around the globe, and some 80% of them are employed in projects abroad. We would like to take this year’s annual report to present our teams of experts in our respective partner countries on the pages 38 to 42.

And what holds true for Europe, has already longer been internalised in developing countries and emerging economies: Local banks are needed, too, if small and medium-sized enterprises are to be started and supposed to prosper. Since 1992, the Sparkassenstiftung has successfully imparted its banking expertise to these countries – in so doing, we draw upon the constant support of our member institutions and donors.
