The new regional project builds on existing projects in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Some of the measures that have already been started from the existing projects will be integrated into the new project and some new measures will be started. In principle, measures that were already in the concept of phasing out, were consistently completed within the originally envisaged timeframe, and measures under implementation continued.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to ending poverty in eastern Africa. The project objective is to increase the financial inclusion of poorer sections of the population in eastern Africa by creating a lasting, high-quality educational offer for the microfinance sector, improving the quality of advice in Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) / Savings and Credit Co-Operatives (SACCOs) and their management and thus improving the understanding of and use the benefits of financial products by final beneficiaries (farmers, micro-entrepreneurs, the poor and the poorest), in order to increase their resilience.
These goals are achieved through the following outcomes:
1. The educational institutions of the microfinance sector in Eastern Africa participating in the project are economically more sustainable. The need for new educational institutions has been analyzed and start-up preparations have been made.
2. The basic vocational education in the microfinance sector is improved.
3. The financial education of broad sections of the population and the commercial knowledge of entrepreneurs are improved.
