Project description

In summer 2008, the Microfinance Center (MFC) in Laos addressed Sparkassenstiftung and asked for support in the field of training. The MFC was founded with the aim to provide training and consultancy services in the area of microfinance. Since then, over 600 people participated in measures of training and further education. However, MFC’s core activities focused on rendering consultancy support.

Due to the strong demand in the area of training and its relevance for development policy, the project aims at developing MFC into a professional provider of adequate and demand-oriented measures of training and further education in Laos. This is not only to the benefit of all players of the microfinance sector, but also to the benefit of their customers. The rendering of extensive consultancy support by German and Philippine experts is one of the core project components.

Sparkassenstiftung and the Philippine microfinance institution CARD are partnering the project. More than 10 years ago, Sparkassenstiftung was also involved in the establishment of CARD’s training center, the CARD-MRI Development Institute.
