Project description

Together with the World Savings Banks Institute (WSBI), Tanzania Postal Bank executes a project to enhance the number of savings accounts held by people with low income. The project is financially backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In addition to supporting the necessary investments, the project includes the expert consulting of Tanzania Postal Bank.

TSB plans to automize its postal network with so-called POS terminals to be used with account cards. Furthermore, an agency network which is not part of the post office network is to be established.

Due to its ample experience in cooperating with postal savings banks in Eastern and Southern Africa, Sparkassenstiftung was asked to assist the project with special focus on project management, card-supported banking business and marketing. To this end, three experienced specialists have been nominated, predominantly with savings banks background.
