概述

Since November 2009, Sparkassenstiftung executes a project in cooperation with the microfinance institution WWB Colombia to mobilize savings in Cali / Colombia.

The microfinance institution WWB Colombia was founded in 1980 with the aim to extend loans predominantly to women micro-entrepreneurs. Today, WWB Colombia operates 59 branch offices throughout Colombia and employs about 1,000 staff members. WWB Colombia is part of the international network “Women’s World Banking”, primarily offering financial products to women through 40 microfinance institutions in 28 countries.

The project aims to support the microfinance institution WWB Colombia in the development and implementation of savings products, to optimize internal procedures and to train the local staff. Thus it is intended to significantly increase the number of active savings accounts.

In July 2009, first contacts were established with the project partner, when an expert of Sparkassenstiftung conducted a fact-finding mission at WWB Colombia. This analysis formed the basis of the two-year project to mobilize savings, which was launched in December 2009.
