概述

Since the end of September 2009, Sparkassenstiftung executes a regional project to strengthen financial literacy of lower income groups in Mexico, Peru and El Salvador. The project aims at enabling the people to handle their financial resources in a careful and responsible manner and helps to further increase the number of financially literate people. In addition, access to financial services by this target group is to be improved.

A central issue of the project is to strengthen the basic financial education of the population, and especially of women micro-entrepreneurs, children and young adults from medium and lower income groups. Another project focus lies on establishing training structures for specialists and managers of local savings banks and associations, as microfinance institutions, employing well trained staff, are essential for responsibly dealing with customers. Thus, they contribute to integrating more people in the financial sector.

In Mexico, Sparkassenstiftung’s project partners are the government-owned development bank BANSEFI, the national agency for consumer protection CONDUSEF, the government-owned institution for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises PRONAFIM and selected (savings banks) associations. In Peru, the microfinance association ASOMIF the government-owned banking supervisory authority SBS and the bank “Banco de la Nación” were integrated as project partners. In El Salvador, Sparkassenstiftung cooperates with the microfinance umbrella association ALPIMED, the cooperative association FEDECRÉDITO and the Ministry of Economics.

The extension of project activities to further Latin American countries is under way.

In the project representation offices in Mexico City and Querétaro (Mexico), in Lima (Peru) and in San Salvador (El Salvador) the work of Sparkassenstiftung’s two long-term experts is supported by qualified local staff.
